How To Make An Omelet

Are you tired of eating boring breakfast foods at home? Do you have few skills on how to cook? If so, you are in the right place. Omelettes are a healthy and easy breakfast food that can be cooked in as little as ten minutes. I will guide you on how to make the perfect omelette that does not take the skill of a chef.

What You Will Need

  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp. of half and half creamer
  • 1/8 tsp. of salt or to liking
  • A dash of pepper or to liking
  • A dash of seasoned salt
  • 1/3 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 pieces of bacon

Step By Step To Making The Perfect Omelet

  1. Crack and beat three eggs in a medium sized bowl - mixing in each ingredient leaving out the 1/3 cup of shredded cheese and bacon until blended well. (Be careful to not over beat the eggs. The half and half creamer will make the omelet thick and fluffy).
  2.  Add 1 tbsp. of olive oil and a dab of butter to a 6 to 8 inch skillet over medium to low heat. Once the butter melts, the pan is ready for the mixture.
  3. After you pour your egg mixture in, you are going to want to cook your bacon in the microwave for about 2 minutes (or to when it looks cooked). Once the bacon is done, cut it up into small bite size pieces to put into your omelet.
  4. Now that your bacon is done, your omelet should be almost finished cooking. Place the bacon pieces in a straight line down the middle of the egg mixture along with the shredded cheese. (You don't want to mix your cheese with your initial egg mixture because when you go to put it into the pan your cheese will settle to the bottom and your egg will not cook thoroughly.)
  5. Once the mixture is cooked and your cheese is melted enough, take a spatula and fold one side (left or right side of the bacon) on top of the bacon, covering the bacon but leaving the opposite side uncovered and ready to make another fold. Next, flip the folded side over onto the unfolded side and let cook for a little bit longer to seal the omelet.
  6. Place Omelet on plate and enjoy!

Why Omelets Are a Better Alternative To Starting Off Your Day

Eggs are very high in protein unlike sugary cereals and unhealthy breakfast items that may be easily prepared. An omelette is a fancy way of cooking eggs, and eggs are high in protein. Eggs also contain important vitamins such as vitamin D, B12, and B6. Vitamin D is an essential vitamin that makes your bones stronger, B12 gives you the natural energy that is needed and B6 contributes to the proper brain development. Each one of these components to an egg helps keep the human body stronger and healthier making it easier to fight off infections easier than it would be if you practiced an unhealthy diet. If you have a hard time consuming the recommended amount of vegetables in a day, omelettes are an easy way to hide these healthy items in a yummy way. Eating eggs regularly can help with weight loss. The natural vitamins and minerals in eggs help you control your appetite and feel full longer.

Cooking on A Budget

Most of the ingredients that it takes to cook an omelette are more than likely going to be found in your kitchen. Unless you are out of eggs and cheese, you will not have to make a trip to the store to get stuff to make it. For more people the ingredients to cook an omelette are things that are already stocked in the kitchen. If you are someone who does not have these things around the kitchen, then it is not going to be very expensive to buy what you need. That is the good thing about making this delicious treat, it is cheap and easy to cook but looks very fancy.

Make it Your Own

The good thing about cooking omelettes is that you do not have to follow a specific recipe! You have the freedom to add in whichever ingredients are your favorite and you can experiment with which flavors you like the most. Depending on what I am feeling, I sometimes like to leave out the bacon or use more or less cheese. If you are trying to go healthy, tweak the recipe. Limit the amount of salt and pepper, substitute the cheese and bacon with some vegetables. You can even just make a plane egg omelette without anything added to it. Cooking is all about making it your own. Feel free to go crazy and make new things. The sky is the limit when it comes to cooking!
